Miami Beach
Miami Beach is the premier resort city: vibrant and exciting, with a stirring local history and an unbeatable waterfront location. The city covers nearly 8 sq. mi. of land, and every square mile is almost covered with historic Art Deco properties, some of which house electrifying nightlife spots and five-star fine dining restaurants. Golf courses, luxury hotels and resorts, and exclusive beach clubs also abound.
It is amazing how far this land, which was purchased for 75 cents an acre by the Lums in 1870, has come. Over 150 years ago, Miami Beach was largely uninhabited. Today, it is home to a sought-after real estate market that consists of luxury single-family residences tucked away in gated island communities and upscale neighborhoods. Water- and beachfront condos are also available, offering front-row seats to the dreamy seascape. Miami Beach Deco is the signature architectural style in the city, but modern offshoots and Mediterranean-inspired properties can also be found in the market.
For decades, Miami Beach has maintained its reputation as the beach party capital of the world, with establishments such as Voodoo Lounge and Nikki Beach Miami leading the front. The city is also dotted with open spaces and parks, such as the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, which features nearly three acres of tropical flora. The Art Deco Historic District between 5th and 23rd Streets is home to one of the country's largest collections of preserved Art Deco buildings. The best way to explore the neighborhood is to take a guided walking tour.
